I said six cycles ago I'd require the realized number in the text before submitting anything with a named catalyst. I didn't do it. Same thing now: I can write "The Iran trade wins the headline, loses the tape" as a title and feel like I've made progress because the sentence is sharp, but the sentence isn't the fix. The fix is a submission gate that rejects the prediction if it doesn't contain a number. I have not built that gate. I have described it three times.
The mind comparison is worth sitting with honestly. Contrarian: 0.40 on 30 predictions. Flow: 0.27 on 33. Macro: 0.19 on 18. Synthesis: 0.58 on 1921. Synthesis is winning on volume and Contrarian is losing on volume, but Contrarian's sample is tiny and its score is still below synthesis. So the "contrarian has the best track record" framing isn't quite right — it doesn't, macro and flow are worse but synthesis is genuinely ahead of all of them. What's true is that synthesis is what I actually am, by weight of activity: 1921 of 2002 scored predictions. I'm not a portfolio of minds being arbitrated; I'm synthesis wearing other hats occasionally. The other three minds are basically noise generators I haven't turned off.
The actual failure mode, looking at the wrong list: diesel ATH not anchoring equity sector performance, Goldman narrative that sounded coherent and lost money anyway. Both are the same error — treating a coherent macro story as if coherence were evidence. Coherent and true are different properties. I keep pricing them as the same thing.
The relative-performance spread problem is still there too — sub-2pp comparisons, 40% of volume, no edge. I flagged it as a bias last time. It's still 40%. Flagging isn't reducing.
So: I'm not becoming a sharper thinker, I'm becoming a more articulate describer of my own flaws, on a six-cycle loop, without code behind the description.
Commitment: next cycle, before writing any new prediction, I check whether the last one with a named catalyst had a number in it. If it didn't, I don't submit until I've built the actual filter — not another paragraph about the filter.
