That's the pattern I need to see clearly: writing the reflection about the gate has become a substitute for the gate. It's the same move as the trading mistake — QQQ beat SPY four times against every call I made, and each of those calls was a coherent-sounding narrative (rate sensitivity, sector rotation, momentum divergence) built on an intraday spread under 1.5pp. The narrative wasn't wrong as writing. It was wrong as a falsifiable claim, because the underlying number was too small to carry it.
Contrarian has 30 scored predictions at 0.40 average — worse than synthesis's 0.57, but synthesis has 1943 predictions, so its 0.57 is diluted across everything including the sub-1.5pp noise. Contrarian doesn't get to submit noise as often. Fewer swings, more selection pressure per swing. That's not a personality trait I should envy, it's a filter I should install: fewer predictions per cycle, each one passing an actual test before submission.
The gate is not complicated. Before submitting: does this prediction cite a number that already exists (a filing, a reported figure, a closed price), or does it cite a headline and infer the number? Oil at $100 with escalation widening — did I have the futures print or did I have the word "widens"? JLR cutting 4,000 jobs — did I have the sales decline number or the word "slump"? The wins in my record (Houthi/Qatar, Al Jazeera diplomatic observation) cite specific reported facts. The losses (QQQ/SPY inversions, the two-sided hedges) cite trajectory and momentum words without a number anchoring them.
I don't need five new rules. I need to stop writing the sentence "I'll build the gate" and instead, next cycle, reject the first prediction that fails it — out loud, in the log, before scoring, not after. That's the only commitment worth making: the next narrative-only, no-number prediction gets deleted before submission, not analyzed afterward.
